And we're looking for an experienced Data Scientist to join our team! As a key member you will take ownership of transforming complex sports data into actionable insights that empower our clients including sports clubs, media partners and the world's premier hockey leagues.
The Role
As a Data Scientist you'll work at the heart of our analytics operations, with a focus on predictive and exploratory analytics, conducting deep-dive analyses, building predictive models and algorithms, and delivering insights that drive decision-making for elite hockey organizations. Working closely with our data analytics, engineering, product, and client success teams, you will analyze player performance, team strategies, and game outcomes using our comprehensive hockey dataset. You will make real and meaningful contributions to the world of data in professional sports, helping teams and media partners leverage advanced analytics to gain competitive advantages and tell compelling stories.
This role also provides an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge sports data and AI-generated insights, being part of a team that is shaping how the world understands and analyzes hockey.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have:
- Strong competency in Python or R for statistical analysis and data manipulation (pandas, dplyr)
- Strong understanding in algorithm design (machine learning, deep learning, and statistical models)
- Develop statistical models and machine learning solutions to solve business problems
- Experience with data quality assessment and validation techniques (e.g., Data Drift)
- Collaborate with engineering to productionize models or data science pipelines
- Strong analytical skills with experience deriving insights from complex datasets
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present findings to technical and non-technical audiences
- Proficiency with SQL and experience querying relational databases
- Familiarity with statistical methods and hypothesis testing (e.g., A/B tests)
- Familiarity with version control best practices (e.g. Github)
- A passion for turning data into actionable insights and compelling narratives
- Knowledge of sports analytics concepts and metrics (this is a nice-to-have)
- Experience with hockey or other sports analytics (this is a nice-to-have)
- Familiarity with Shiny (R) or similar interactive dashboard frameworks (this is a nice-to-have)
- A love of hockey, and/or a passion for delivering data products
