Backend/DevOps Engineer

Stathletes is revolutionizing professional hockey data and analytics for the world’s premier leagues, teams, players, agents, media, sportsbooks and digital platforms. And we're looking for an experienced Backend/DevOps Engineer to join our team! As a key member you will take ownership of both backend development and infrastructure operations for our software suite that services our internal teams, sports clubs, media and the world's premier hockey leagues.

The Role

As a Backend/DevOps Engineer you'll work at the intersection of software development and infrastructure operations, building scalable backend services while ensuring robust deployment pipelines and system reliability. Working closely with our CTO and a team of Full-Stack, Database and DevOps engineers, you will architect backend systems, automate infrastructure, and establish best practices for continuous integration and deployment. You will make real and meaningful contributions to the world of data in professional sports and have significant influence over our infrastructure choices and technology stack as we scale to deliver cutting-edge features and insights in our next phase of growth.

This role also provides an exciting opportunity to build infrastructure that supports cutting-edge AI systems, being part of a team that is shaping how the world creates and consumes sports data.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have:

  • Experience building and maintaining scalable backend systems and APIs
  • Strong proficiency with backend frameworks (Ruby on Rails, Python/FastAPI, etc.)
  • Deep expertise with cloud platforms (AWS, etc), orchstration (Ansible, etc) and infrastructure as code (Terraform, etc)
  • Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes, ECS)
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and tools (GitHub Actions, etc)
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability tools (Datadog, CloudWatch, ELK stack, etc)
  • Strong grasp of SQL databases, caching strategies, and distributed systems
  • Familiarity with version control best practices (Git, Github)
  • Experience in other technologies or programming languages welcome!
  • A solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms and software design
  • A passion for automation, reliability engineering, and software craftsmanship
  • Experience with configuration management and deployment automation
  • Knowledge of security best practices and compliance standards
  • Experience with high-availability architectures and disaster recovery
  • Interest in data pipelines and machine learning infrastructure
  • Experience with B2B (this is a nice-to-have)
  • A love of hockey, and/or a passion for delivering data products
