Database Engineer

Stathletes is revolutionizing professional hockey data and analytics for the world’s premier leagues, teams, players, agents, media, sportsbooks and digital platforms. Our mission is to offer the most comprehensive dataset in sports to drive the most accurate and insightful statistical analysis available in the market.
And we’re looking for a driven Database Engineer to own the database infrastructure of our software ecosystem, and be a key player on our growing engineering team.
The Role
As the Database Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the high-performance, scalable database infrastructure that powers Stathletes' analytics products. This includes optimizing database schemas, writing complex queries, tuning performance, scaling clusters and automating administrative tasks. You'll work closely with our data engineering and product teams to ensure the database solution meets the needs of our fast-growing business.
This role also provides an exciting opportunity to build software that integrates with cutting-edge AI, being part of a team that is shaping how the world creates and consumes sports data.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have:
- Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing complex database systems, preferably in a high-transaction, high-volume environment
- Expertise in SQL and relational database design principles, including normalization, indexing, query optimization, and data modelling
- Strong knowledge of database administration tasks such as backup/restore, security, user management, and performance tuning
- Experience with cloud database platforms
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL databases and their use cases
- Ability to analyze and resolve complex database performance issues
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and troubleshooting skills
- A love of hockey
